 Who is Sof?

I am a young student filmmaker and theatrical designer, currently pursuing a major in non-profit theatre for youth at Piedmont University. I was born and raised in Orlando, FL, and am a first-generation Puerto Rican. Along with my beginnings in filmmaking, I'm a proud set designer, builder, and director for the stage and like to implement my strong ties to theater in my writing and directing processes.

I am very passionate about the use of art as a means of not only expression but also social change. I would describe myself as “deliberately extreme” when it comes to my methods of creating art and sharing my messages. My goal is always to invoke thoughtful conversations with the things I write and promote creatively. If you are caught off guard enough by a piece of literature or artwork to feel strongly about it then I think it has done its job!

My goal is to one day be able to open a theatre playhouse that allows theatre to be virtually free for the public to access and doubles as a homeless shelter. My life has been saved time and time again by the creative outlets I pour myself into and I hope one day to return that favor to others. I hope that this is also reflected in what you find throughout my portfolio.

A Bit More About Me

As a strong communicator and creative thinker,  I work well as both a leader and a collaborator and am ready to tackle any task put in front of me to the best of my abilities. I enjoy being pushed outside of my comfort zone and working in an environment that encourages you to think outside the box.  I'm passionate and strive to put a little bit of who I am into every project I work on.

Skills

I am a fan of any kind of genre of theatre or film but some of my personal favorites include Absurdism, Greek Theatre, and Theatre for Youth. I enjoy drawing from real-world issues and adding an element of fantasy to them, using storytelling to add to modern conversations in creative and abstract ways. Having grown up during a period of transformation when it comes to storytelling, I am grateful for the chance to participate in both traditional and modern ways of expression whether that be on the stage or online

Interests

Some of my favorite artists and creators from which I draw inspiration are Jim Henson, Keith Haring, Jane Fonda, and Taika Waititi. I also enjoy drawing from art movements and concepts such as Neo-Dada, Camp, and feminist art movements such as The Guerilla Girls.

Inspirations

Some of my favorite plays and musicals include Merrily We Roll Along by Stephen Sondheim, Come From Away by David Hein and Irene Sankoff,  Medea by Euripides,  and Highest Heaven  by José Cruz González.
